The service is available at eligible locations in the Blacksburg, Camden, Carslile, Cleveland, Clinton, Darlington, Edisto Island, Gaffney, Gresham, Honea Path, Jonesville, Lake View, Latta, McColl, Marion, Mullins, Neeses, Newberry, North, Pacolet, Pickens, Pomaria, Prosperity, Society Hill, Springfield, Sunset, and Union communities.
We had previously announced availability of the service in parts of Bamberg, Barnwell, Dorchester, Oconee and Richland counties.
"AT&T is a fantastic corporate partner to South Carolina, and its commitment to providing equal access to high-speed internet for people in every part of the state will continue to benefit South Carolinians," said Gov. Henry McMaster. "Investment in rural areas is especially important to making sure every person in the state is given the opportunity to benefit from the economic development success we will continue to see for generations to come."
This follows the launch of Fixed Wireless Internet in parts of South Carolina in June as part of our FCC Connect America Fund commitment. We plan to provide access to over 1.1 million locations by 2020. In South Carolina alone, we have committed to providing access to 30,000 locations by 2020, reaching more than 40 percent of that goal by the end of this year.
"Access to fast and reliable internet is a life-changer in today's interconnected world," said Pamela Lackey, president of AT&T South Carolina. "We are excited about the opportunities this innovative service will bring for customers in many parts of the state as we continue working to close the connectivity divide in South Carolina."
Between 2014 and 2016, AT&T invested more than $800 million in its best-in-class wired and wireless networks in South Carolina from 2014-2016.
Our Fixed Wireless Internet service delivers a home internet connection with download speeds of at least 10Mbps and upload speeds of at least 1Mbps. Customers can download, surf and stream their favorite movies or television shows. The connection comes from a wireless tower to a fixed antenna on customers' homes or businesses. This is an efficient way to deliver high-quality, high-speed internet to customers, many getting access to high-speed internet for the first time.
