Bluffton and Summerville Professionals Receive Diplomate Certification
Staff Report From South Carolina CEO
Thursday, June 21st, 2018
Dr. Alan Barbieri and Dr. Frank Barbieri would like to formally announce their recent new Diplomate board certifications through the American Sleep and Breathing Academy and our new affiliation with a program initiative for retired NFL football players. Through their practice, 2 Sleep Well Again with locations in the Lowcountry and greater Charleston area, these professionals are helping treat patients who are medically diagnosed with Obstructive Sleep Apnea.
This diplomate status was earned after an independent board reviewed proof of 50 hours of continuing education in Dental Sleep Medicine within the last 2 years along with submission of 12 cases personally treated successfully with Oral Appliance Therapy within the last five years and completion of the required diplomate exam.
“We are honored to receive this designation,” said Dr. Frank Barbieri. “Our hope is that it will help raise more awareness about our ability to help people with sleep disorders discover a better way of life.”
The American Board of Sleep and Breathing is an independent board, providing a Diplomate designation to licensed dentists who treat sleep related breathing disorders.
In addition to this exciting news, this Fall, 2 Sleep Well Again will be teaming up with the NFLPA’s Professional Athletes Foundation, The Living Heart Foundation and Pro Player Health Alliance to work with former NFL players to make the problems associated with poor sleep known to the public. Much like the growing awareness surrounding brain trauma and its effects, the problem of poor sleep is gaining traction in the public eye.
Former NFL players are eager to talk about OSA because they see the benefits of oral appliance therapy. The goal of the program is to educate former player members and their families with the knowledge needed to tackle this tough subject and live the healthiest life possible.
