St. James-Santee Receives Dollar General Literacy Grant

St. James-Santee Elementary/Middle is starting the school year focused on literacy with a $2,000 Dollar General Youth Literacy Grant.
Grant funding is for middle and high schools to assist struggling readers by:

Implementing new or expanding existing literacy programs;

Purchasing new technology or equipment to support literacy initiatives;

Purchasing books, materials or software for literacy programs.
St. James-Santee will use the grant funds to purchase fiction and non-fiction books for the school library that will appeal to struggling readers in middle grades. Casey Marlowe, the teacher librarian, applied for the grant. St. James-Santee is the only CCSD school to receive a grant this year.
All schools are eligible to apply for a Dollar General Youth Literacy grant. Preference is given to middle and high schools. Grant applications are due at the end of each school year, to be used for the following school year.
