Charleston County School District (CCSD) makes a concerted effort to partner with local businesses to award, reward and recognize students and employees. Often those partnerships are education incentives.
One such program is the GlowFisch Hospitality (GFH) Terrific Kids Program that promotes academic achievement in the classroom. The Terrific Kid Rewards program is focused on rewarding students and their teachers for reaching attainable educational goals throughout the school year.
The goal is to motivate students to perform to the best of their ability. This is achieved by providing a reward each time a set goal is attained.
The program can be tailored to fit individual class needs and is simple to execute.
“Our Terrific Kid Rewards program is focused on rewarding students and their teachers for reaching attainable educational goals throughout the school year,” said Julia Trombley, Marketing Manager of GlowFisch Hospitality. “The program can be tailored to fit individual class needs and is simple to execute.”
The program was adopted at the beginning of the school year, and about 30 schools across the tri-county region participate in the program; including many from CCSD such as Military Magnet Academy and James B. Edwards Elementary School.
How the program works
GlowFisch Hospitality will provide the classroom with Terrific Kid cards and Read a Book cards for elementary schools valid for one free Kid's Meal with purchase of an adult meal at any GFH restaurant (Ember, Wood Fired Kitchen, Five Loaves Café, and Sesame Burger and Beer) which expires 30 days after issued. Middle Schools and High Schools will receive All-Star cards valid for one free meal with the purchase of another meal.
Teachers dictate the criteria for students to earn the cards. Examples include: completing an assigned chapter in reading (book buddies card- valid grades k-5), maintaining a certain GPA, and perfect attendance record (terrific kid card).
When the card is redeemed at a GFH restaurant, the students' information will be captured on the card. Once a month, Glow Fisch Hospitality will enter the cards into a drawing for additional prizes from GFH. (Prizes are age appropriate and will vary per month.)
The teacher whose students have redeemed the most cards at the end of each month will receive a $50 gift certificate to a GFH restaurant.
As a bonus, GFH will host a free holiday staff party for the school with the most redeemed cards.
The program will run from September-Winter Break.
The program will resume after Winter Break to the end of the school year, in which the grand prize will be a free end of the school year staff Party.
Trombley explained that in the past the restaurants hosted “percent nights” where a portion of the evening’s proceeds goes back to a designated school. This new program incentivizes the teachers and the students alike.
“The program has been successful. Many children are earning cards because area teachers are reaching out to obtain more,” said Trombley.
