On June 26th, Google South Carolina partnered with Palmetto Goodwill to host 26 Lowcountry veterans for Digital Skills Workshops, in conjunction with Goodwill Training Sessions. Participants will complete training with several certifications to supplement the workforce re-entry process and develop basic manufacturing skills.
Googlers from the company’s Moncks Corner data center led the workshop sessions which covered digital career readiness topics like drafting a resume, utilizing Google tools to build digital skills, and how to prepare for interviews. The 26 veterans are currently enrolled in one of two Palmetto Goodwill training courses: Veterans for Manufacturing and Gas Metal Arc Welding courses.
“We’re very thankful for Google South Carolina collaborating with us to invest in our Lowcountry neighbors,” said Palmetto Goodwill President & CEO Robert Smith. “Workforce readiness is a major goal of Goodwill’s training courses, and it’s exceptionally meaningful to assist former military service members in the workforce re-entry process.”
“It’s our honor to give back and help teach fellow Lowcountry citizens, especially veterans,” said Google Head of Southeast Public Affairs Lilyn Hester. “Googlers are eager to share their knowledge of online skills and Google tools that can help build digital skills, whether it’s applicable to day-to-day life or workforce re-entry.”
