The Charleston Metro Chamber hosted its annual Legislative Reception on Thursday, January 9. This annual event provides an opportunity for the Chamber's membership to salute and make connections with local, state and federal elected officials. The Chamber released their 2020 Legislative Agenda at the event.

The Agenda is the set of goals that the Chamber's Senior Director of Legislative Relations, George Ramsey, works to achieve each legislative session. The 2020 State Legislative Agenda focuses on the business community's top priorities relating to taxes and regulations, workforce housing, state fiscal health, building a skilled talent pipeline and supporting the military.

The agenda features 10 Priority Issues that the Chamber's Government Relations team will actively work to pass this year. There are seven additional Competitiveness Issues which may take longer to accomplish but are priorities that are still vitally important to the business community.

Among the Priority Issues are items to further strengthen support of the military. For instance, to fully exempt military retirement benefits from state income tax, which would allow South Carolina to be more competitive in obtaining retired military who want a second career and have skills that are highly sought after by private-sector companies.

The 2020 Legislative Agenda can be accessed on the Chamber's website.
