BCDCOG To Partner With Town Of Harleyville On Comprehensive Plan Visioning Session
Staff Report From Charleston CEO
Monday, March 23rd, 2020
The Berkeley-Charleston-Dorchester Council of Governments (BCDCOG) will partner with the Town of Harleyville to host a comprehensive plan visioning session Thursday, March 26th, at the Harleyville Community Center.
During the session, which will be open from 7 to 8:30 p.m., the public will learn about relevant issues in Harleyville such as population, housing, land use, economic development, community facilities, cultural and natural resources, and transportation.
“A Comprehensive Plan is a publicly driven document that analyzes a community’s current state of affairs, and consider what it wants to be and look like in the future,” said BCDCOG planning director Kathryn Basha. “We will work with the Town of Harleyville and its residents to identify goals and implement strategies to accomplish that vision.”
Harleyville’s 2020 comprehensive planning process will last approximately 10 months.
The Town and BCDCOG will seek comments, questions and feedback from the public to learn about how participants envision the Town’s future. All materials will be posted online for public review, Basha said.
Additional opportunities to participate in the planning process include submitting ideas, suggestions and comments about the draft and final documents, and/or responding to the community survey, available soon at the Town’s and BCDCOG’s website.
Participants can also submit comments in person at Harleyville Town Hall, or attend Planning Commission meetings or Town Council hearings when the draft plan is reviewed.
The comprehensive plan website and survey will become available following the public visioning session on March 26th.
“A comprehensive plan should be representative of all community members, therefore public participation is integral to achieving a mutually beneficial outcome,” said Basha. “We look forward to partnering with the Town of Harleyville and our continued engagement with the public as we help develop the vision of Harleyville for years to come.”
